The Academy provides a variety of out-of-school-time programs for middle and high school-aged youth. We are committed to providing the inspiration and training for young people to become science enthusiasts and stewards of the natural world.

Careers in Science Intern Program

Careers in Science is a paid, multi-year, year-round science education and youth development program for underrepresented youth in San Francisco. 

Grades: 9th - 12th graders (only 9th - 10th graders can apply)
Location: California Academy of Sciences
Day/Time: Afterschool and weekends
Duration: Multi-year, year-round participation


Teen Advocates for Science Communication

TASC at Bay Area Science Festival

Teen Advocates for Science Communication is the Academy's youth volunteer program. Participants carry out our mission to explore, explain, and sustain life by designing and presenting youth-created educational programs to the public.

Grades: 8th - 12th graders
Location: California Academy of Sciences
Days: Saturdays or Sundays during fall & spring; Mondays, Tuesdays, Fridays, Saturdays, or Sundays during summer
Duration: Fall, spring, or summer semester


Science Action Club

Science Action Club (SAC) engages middle school youth in authentic, hands-on science through partnerships with local afterschool providers.

Grades: 6th - 8th graders
Location: Afterschool and community organizations nationwide 
Time: After school, varies by club


Teen Science Night

Teen Science Night

End summer with science: Immerse yourself in the natural world at the California Academy of Sciences’ annual Teen Science Night, a teen takeover night at the museum. Youth (ages 13-18) are invited to come explore the world of science at this free, fun-filled event.
